Common issues with the workshops, answer keys, and running a session on your own.
No. Most lessons just need a web browser, no account, nothing to install, Python runs right in the page. A few things (the Workshop 3 and 4 capstone projects, and every answer key) still open in Google Colab and need a Google account for those specifically.
Click Run again, sometimes it just needs a second attempt. If that doesn't help, refresh the page. On a slow connection the first load can take a few seconds since your browser is downloading a full Python environment, look for "Loading Python…" near the top of the page while you wait.
That's expected right now, there's no save feature yet, so leaving or refreshing a page resets every cell back to its starting code. If you write something you want to keep, copy it somewhere else before you navigate away. A future version of this platform will save your progress automatically.
Listed at the bottom of each workshop on the Workshops page. They open in Google Colab and are public for anyone to view, use them to check your own work or to help if you're stuck, not as a replacement for trying the exercise first.
Most lessons technically work on a phone browser, but the small screen makes typing and running code difficult. A Chromebook or laptop is strongly recommended.
This only comes up for the few things that still use Colab, the capstone projects and the answer keys. Most lessons don't need a Google account at all. For the Colab parts: some school networks restrict Google services beyond email and docs, try a personal Google account instead, or ask your teacher or IT contact whether Colab specifically is blocked.
That's expected on any Colab notebook that isn't Google's own (this only applies to the capstone projects and answer keys, which still open in Colab). Our notebooks are public on GitHub under the SLCCE organization and are safe to run. Click "Run anyway" to continue.
This only affects the capstone projects and answer keys, which still run in Colab. Go to Runtime → Restart runtime, then re-run your cells from the top with Runtime → Run all. Free Colab sessions can time out after a period of inactivity, this is normal.
Let us know at contact@slcce-inc.org so we can fix it, this is currently our only way of hearing about problems since the site doesn't track usage.
These workshops are built to be self-guided. Work through them in order, Workshop 1 → 2 → 3 → 4, each one assumes the last is done. There's no login and no setup for students, just share the Workshops page link.
Answer keys are public and unlinked from the main navigation, on purpose, so they're there if you need them without being the first thing students see.
